Are things ever going to settle down after the Holidays???? =)

Christmas was a blast. I'll start from Saturday. Kathy had a Christmas party at Windy City Sundries in Hickory, and since Britt had to work Ida and I went together. Talk about fun......get Ida and me together and we are trouble, but in a good way! We had the best time that night. I wasn't planning on drinking that much, but by the end of the night I was feeling PRRREETTY good! We ran into, of all people, Candace there. It was kind of awkward at first but once we all had a few drinks in us it was like old times.
I got up Sunday morning and went to church. Then came home and got everything together for Christmas Eve at my Mammaw and Pappaw Drum's house. It's one of our family traditions......spending Christmas Eve at their house. I LOVE IT! We eat, open gifts, and then head to church for the candlelight service. Ashlyn was so excited. She didn't know which present to open next. She liked all of them, but her favorite was a my little pony doll that was bigger than the regular my little ponies are. You could fix her long pink hair. Whitney and Derek got it for her. She kept saying "this is my favorite pony ever!" Cute!!!
After all of the festivities at Mammaw's and Pappaw's we went over to Mom and Dad's to open our gifts over there. They went all out this year. I got a gift certificate to the spa. WHOO HOO! Britt got a gift card for some tools. We both also got clothes and a few odds and in things. Ashlyn got a pop-up playhouse, baby chimp, clothes, and a few other things. By this point I had NO clue where we were going to put all of these toys, and we weren't even halfway over.
Santa brought Ashlyn her gifts for Christmas morning. She was grinning from ear to ear. She got a Fisher Price art Easel that talks and does all kinds of neat things, the tj bearytales bear that tells you stories, a star station (it hooks up to the tv and she can watch herself sing and dance on the television screen with her microphone). She loves seeing herself in pictures, or on video.
Then we were off to the Cody's lunch. It was great seeing Pauline and all of the family. After lunch there we went down to Mammaw Sherrills and opened gifts there. Ashlyn opend a ton of presents over there. She got so many toys! I honestly don't know how all of this is going to fit in our house. =)
Next we went to Britt's Mom's for Christmas dinner. We ate some delicious food, and then opened presents and enjoyed the company of one another. Over there Ashlyn got 2 cabbage patch dolls and alot of nice outfits. She played with her cousins Reid and Alain all evening. She loves them sooooo much! She thinks that she can do anything that they can do.
We all went to bed after our exhausting day.
Tuesay we were supposed to go to the Drum Christmas Get together. I may have missed it once the whole 27 years that I've been going. Ashlyn was exhausted though. She kept telling me that she wanted to go nite nite in her bed. So I laid her down and I took a little nap too. There was just no point to take her when she was going to be miserable at the dinner.
That evening we drove to Britts dad's house in Taylorsville to do our Christmas with them. We grilled steaks. They were sooooo good! Ashlyn and her cousins got to play a little longer before they headed back to Clemmons. She got a few more toys from Pappaw and Treva. She absolutely loves her shopping cart. She strolls it all through the house.
I went back to work Wednesday. It was fairly slow. I'm hoping that most places are shut down this week. Next week will probably be pure hell at work once everyones back to all of the major companies.
I ended up being out of work today because Ashlyn is sick, yes again! UGGGGHHHH! She had been running a fever. I came in from the doctor today and she puked all over me. We cleaned it up. A few minutes later, she puked all over our chair and a half, and so on. So now that we've battled the flu, she now has a freaking stomach virus. And let me tell you, THIS IS NOT FUN!
Hopefully she'll start feeling better very soon! I sure hope so. Having a 2 1/2 year olf vommitting uncontrolably is not my cup of tea!
So that's my Christmas in a nutshell. Hope you aren't pulling your hair out after reading this. =)

Oh - and on top of everything else, I did have my IUD taken out today......we'll see how that goes. FUN FUN!!!! It's nonstop at the Cody house.

Wishing all of you a happy new year!!!!!!

Christmas Card

Moriah put this together for us. Thanks girl! You did a great job!! Unfortunately I tried taking it to a zillion places to have the cards printed and every place that I went to did not have a PLAIN 4x8 card that I could print it on. RIDICULOUS!!!! I was going to send it to a company on the internet to print them and then mail them to me, but with Ashlyn getting the Flu last week it threw my timing off. So.......with all of that being said, I will not be able to mail this particular card out, but I wanted to share it with all of you. Thanks again Moriah!!! Next year I'll have to get a VERY EARLY start on my Christmas cards! =)

testing

I set up the beta blogger account. I'm just making sure that it works.

Flu

Tuesday night Ashlyn started running a fever and was extremely whiney. Wednesday morning she was still running a high fever, so Britt stayed at home with her. I figured that it was just a little cold and she would be feeling better in a day or so. When I got home Wednesday evening she was burning up and wouldn't eat any supper. She slept with me Wednesday night and was up all night crying. I had been giving her Tylenol every 4 hours. At 5:30 I took her temperature and it was 103.5 with the Tylenol in her system. At this point I knew that I had a very sick child. I let her sleep a little longer and then I woke her up and took her to the doctor. He checked her out and said that her throat was extremely red and swollen. He started putting all of her symptons together and said that it sounded like the flu. He did a flu test and sure enough it came back positive. =( She is pitiful! Yesterday she didn't even have the strength to keep her eyes open long enough to watch tv. All she did was lay in my arms and sleep. The doctor prescribed her some Tamiflu. It's supposed to shorten the length of time that she has the flu. I dropped her off with Britt and then headed to the pharmacy to have her medicine filled. Get this......the lady behind the counter said that they did not have any Tamiflu and their warehouse wasn't expected to get any in until December 19th. I couldn't believe it! Why in the world wouldn't a pharmaceutical company have enough of this stuff on hand? Every year there are millions of cases of the flu. I just don't understand why we don't produce enough of the flu vaccines and medicines to have on hand once flu season hits. This happens EVERY YEAR!!!!! You would think that we would have learned that by now! Anyways, the lady went back to double check and she found ONE box. So I got the very last box of Tamiflu that they had on their shelves. Thank goodness for that! The funny thing with this story is that Ashlyn had her first round of flu shots on November 28th and she still got the dern flu. I guess now I don't have to take her for her second round now. She'll definitely have the immunity to it after this. And Britt and I didn't get a flu shot this year. Wasn't that just brilliant?!?! Now we'll probably both get it and if we do we'll be sick over Christmas. LOVELY! I've been lysoling the entire house and taking vitamin C. Only time will tell. Just make sure to wash your hands and keep disinfectant with you at all times. The flu is here and in full force!

THEY ASK SO LITTLE

TAKE TIME TO LAUGH AND SING
AND PLAY AND CUDDLE THEM A BIT,
TELL THEM A STORY NOW AND THEN
AND STEAL A LITTLE TIME TO SIT.
AND LISTEN TO THEIR CHILDISH TALK
OR TAKE THEM FOR A LITTLE WALK.
TAKE TIME TO HEAR THEIR PRAYERS AT NIGHT,
TO REALLY CHERISH AND ENJOY.
A LITTLE GIRL WITH FLAXEN CURLS
AND THE SMALL WONDER OF A BOY.
THEY ASK SO LITTLE WHEN THEY'RE SMALL,
JUST LOVE AND TENDERNESS, THAT'S ALL
(ANONYMOUS)
I received this from a gentleman at the craft-show on Saturday. It's too good not to pass along to others! These are definitely words that any parent should live by!

Whirlwind Weekend!

Friday I was planning on skipping lunch and leaving work an hour early so that I could paint some pottery. Well..........that didn't happen. Britt called me around 2:00 and informed me that I needed to take Layla, our female chocolate Lab to the Vet. He had to go to work, so that left ME to take her. Somehow she had cut her eye open.......not the actual eye, but the bottom eyelid was torn open about 1/2 inch-1 inch. She must have gotten it hooked on something. It looked REALLY BAD!!! Soooooo......I left work early and headed to the house to get Layla. Let me just remind you that she doesn't like getting in the car. She's a big scaredy cat (dog). So I'm wrestling with her to get her in my car. She wasn't going to budge. After about 20 minutes of trying to force her in the car I just gave up. I got in the drivers seat and just sat there hoping that she may calm down and then jump in for her doggie treat that I had waiting on the console for her. FINALLY she slowly climbed up into the floorboard of the car. And we were off. The vet's office was packed. I didn't mind the wait though. I sat and talked with all of the other dog and cat owners. Everyone is always so friendly at the vet. I learned about every animal there and what problems they had. I'm a HUGE animal lover, so it was nice to sit and play with all of doggies that came in. They finally called our name. The doctor looked Layla over and told me that she was going to need stitches, and since the tear was by the eye they were going to have to sedate her, which meant that they had to keep her overnight. I told her goodbye and went home. Poor Nate didn't know what to do. He howled almost all night long. I felt so sorry for him! They have never spent a night apart, so he was extremely lonely. I went and picked her up Saturday morning. I dreaded hearing the total amount that all of this was gooing to cost. I just knew that it was going to cost us an arm and a leg, but it had to be done. The doctor started reading everything that they had done back to me. The list goes on and on from shots to stitches to her medicine. The total came to be $110.00.......I couldn't believe it! Only $110 for ALL OF THAT!!! At most vets her shots alone would cost $100. I must say that after this ordeal I HIGHLY recommend going to Dr. Robinson. We take all of our animals there, but fortunately we have never had to go for an emergency until Friday. Dr. Robinson is not out to only make money. He actually wants to help people and not charge a ridiculous amount for his services.
Saturday morning Ashlyn and I met Mom and Pam to go to the Metrolina craft-show. I found so many bargains. I got half of my Christmas shopping done that morning. After the craft-show Ashlyn and I went to Concord Mills to do a little more shopping. The mall was so crowded, but alot of the stores had some great sales. I was able to knock out a few more names on my list. Then we headed to MegArt in Mooresville to paint some pottery. I painted 2 trivets for both of my mammaws. I made and angel and used Ashlyn's footprints for the wings. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Yesterday was a lazy Sunday. I was worn out from our big shopping day, so I just rested for most of the day. Ashlyn had her Christmas Program last night at church. On our way to church my car started making a terrible sound. It sounded like a flat tire. I turned around and headed back home. Sure enough my back tire on the passengers side was flat. JUST MY LUCK!!!! I ran in and grabbed the keys to Britt's truck and transferred everything from my car into the truck. We got to the church just in time. The children did a GREAT job! Ashlyn was an angel. She looked precious! She kept waving to my mom while she was on stage singing. It was TOO CUTE! I helped clean up the family life center and set the tables up for our United Methodist Women's Christmas dinner on Wednesday night. Guess who's catering it.............KIM! Yep. I can't wait to taste her delicious cooking.
That's my weekend. It's always and adventure with me!

Prayer Request

Please keep Britt's Grandma Cody in your prayers. She has been battling cancer for almost 2 years now. She is the sweetest, most caring person that I've ever met! She thinks of everyone else's needs before her own.........If only the world was full of Pauline Cody's. I look up to her and thrive to be the kind of woman that she is. I've never met anyone with a heart like her's. Unfortunately the cancer has gotten progressively worse. Britt went to visit her yesterday and she didn't even have the strength to talk. All she did was sit in her chair and stare. It just breaks my heart to see her like that! Not once, the entire time that she has been diagnosed with the cancer, have I ever heard her complain. I honestly don't think that I have ever heard her say a negative comment. She always looks at everything with a positive outlook. Please just keep her and our family in your prayers. It's a very difficult time for everyone in the family right now. Thank you!

Trees.....Trees everywhere

ASHLYN'S PINK CHRISTMAS TREE ;)

THIS IS OUR TREE

HOPE YOU LIKE THEM!!!!

What's the deal?

LOL!!!!!!!!! What did I do to deserve ALL OF THE CAR TROUBLE THAT I HAVE?!?!?!?!?

Let me start off with the first story.......On Thanksgiving Day Britt decided to wash my car for me while I was busy cooking. A few minutes later he came back inside the kitchen and proceeded to ask me if I had pissed anyone off at work. What???????? Me piss someone off........NO!!! I get along with everyone that I work with! He then tells me that someone has loosened all of my lug-nuts on my front tires! I was missing 3 on one tire and 2 on another. The ones that were left on were ALL LOOSE! If Britt wouldn't have noticed the missing lug-nuts my family and I could have been seriously injured or killed! Britt rotated my tires a couple months back, and he used a power wrench to put the tires back on. There is NO WAY that these just happened to loosen up and fall off on their own. Someone is either out to get me, or was trying to steal my tires. I really can't figure it out. My car is either in our garage at home, parked at work with people in and out every minute, or parked in a busy parking lot while I'm out shopping. This just disgusts me! I travel with a 2 year old almost everyday.......what if one or both of my wheels came off while I had her in the car!?!?!? It just really gets to me that people can be so mean!

My second rant is my flippin' car! I'm sure that you remember when my car stopped on my in the middle of the drive thru line while getting breakfast. I took it to Advanced Auto Parts and had them hook my car up to this computer that would tell you what the problem is. They gave me the printout. It said that we needed to replace all four of my Oxygen censors. We went and bought 4 new O2 censors, which was close to $200, and Britt replaced the old with the new. Up until yesterday everything was fine.........until I was in the drive thru line at CVS to pick up a presription. And it stopped.....AGAIN! What the heck? SOOOOO..........something else is wrong! Just my luck! Britt is supposed to take it to a garage today to hook it up to a machine. I just hope and pray that it's nothing major. If so that may be our Christmas present to one another. =) Lovely!

Ashlyn Receiving Her Bible

Picking Out the Perfect Tree

Ashlyn, Alaina, and Reid

Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas trees......what a combination!

All I can say is.....what a BUSY weekend! Thursday we had lunch at Britt's Grandma Cody's house. The Cody family is huge. I think that there are 10 great grandchildren. It's always nice to get all of the kids together. They love it! After lunch we headed to my parent's house for dinner at 5:00. We have both sides of the family (Sherrill and Drum) for dinner, so Ashlyn got to see everybody. She was on cloud nine! When we finished there we went to Britt's Mom's for their family Thanksgiving dinner. We just ate dessert there. We were stuffed from all of the food that we consumed throughout the day. I'm glad that Thanksgiving only comes around once a year!
We spent the night at Joyce's. Kerry, Britt's sister, and her family also stayed the night. Poor Joyce had all three kids in the bed with her. I know that she didn't get much sleep at all Thursday night! Friday morning we had breakfast and then headed to the mountains to pick out our Christmas Tree. The kids were very eager to get there. Once we got there all three kids were getting fussy......so the fun began. =) It didn't take us long at all to pick out a tree. Last year we searched for the perfect one, but this year we took home the first one that we both agreed on. All three of the trees were perfect and full. After loading the trees on Britt's truck we took off to the Mast General Store. I hadn't been there in a very long time. They have a little bit of everything inside. I found me some really cute shoes, but once I looked at the price tag and saw that they were $120 I decided I didn't need them that bad. Now I'm not claustrophobic, but the store was PACKED and I was beginning to feel that way. You couldn't hardly walk around in there, and the floors were creaking. I was just waiting on the floor to fall in. I have no clue how this OLD store can hold that many people! It was insane. By the end of the day Ashlyn was one worn out and grumpy girl! When we finally arrived back at our house both of our Labs had gotten out of their kennel. They had chewed up the wires to BOTH of Britt's trailors......AGAIN! I honestly thought that they were going to be dead dogs. And not only did they chew the trailor wires. They also chewed our cable wire in half!!!!!! These dogs do not learn. Britt was LIVID!
Saturday Ashlyn and I didn't do a thing. We just rested up from Thursday and Friday. Britt had a Foard Alumni Basketball Tournament over the Thanksgiving Holidays. Ashlyn and I went to watch his game Saturday evening. His class won the tournament. And he did a great job! Ashlyn was so proud of her daddy! She kept saying "Good job Daddy!" and cheering for him. Too darn cute! Mom and Dad came by the house on their way home from Hickory. They took Ashlyn with them so that Britt and I could go over to a friend's house for a get together. We had so much fun! Before we knew it was 2:45 am and were still hanging out watching everyone sing karaoke. I didn't get in the bed until almost 4:00.
Sunday I helped with a baby shower for Britt's cousin Stephanie. She is due on January 16th and has gained only 20 lbs. She hadn't gained weight anywhere except for her belly. I was so jealous. =) She looked great! Once the shower was over I picked Britt up to go to our church. They were presenting Ashlyn with her first Bible last night. When they called her name she ran up and got her Bible and ran back to us with the biggest smile on her face. Priceless! She wanted to go home with Nana and Pappaw, so we let her stay with them last night, and we went home and put up Christmas decorations. I LOVE DECORATING......everthing but putting those darn lights on the tree. I would almost pay someone to come and do that part for me. I hate it! I'm surprised that Britt and I are still married after trying to tackle that task!
That's my 4 day weekend. We were busy every day! I hope that you all had a great Thanksgiving as well!

Thanksgiving is almost here!

I can't wait! I love Thankgiving! It is definitely one of my favorite holidays.......between the yummy food, the family, and the shopping; what could be better? Well....I don't think that I'm going to be fighting the shopping crowds this year, but for many people it's the greatest shopping day ever.
Instead of shopping for Christmas gifts we are going to be shopping in the mountains for our Christmas tree on Friday. We've made it a tradition to go every year. I just love it.....the cold air, the mountain views, and best of all we get to pick out and chop down our very own Christmas tree.
Growing up we always had an artificial tree. It is by far much easier to put up and down, but there is something really great about having a real tree. Especially the family time that we have together while picking it out. I do hate vacuming all of the pine needles, but other than that I love it!
Now I'll back up and tell you about our weekend. Usually when Britt has a weekend off we just lay around the house and do basically nothing, in the evenings that is. There's always something to do durning the day like some kind of cleaning or yard work. But this weekend was different. We were busy bodies.
Friday night we went to Kobe's and had supper. Yum Yum! That place will never get old. Then we went and picked up the parts for my car and stopped by Blockbuster to pick up a movie for the night. We hardly ever have time to watch movies anymore. That used to be all that we did. I don't know what happened. I guess it was having a child. LOL! Anyways we rented 'Crash'. It was a very good movie. It was one of those that really makes you sit back and look at the big picture. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend checking it out.
Saturday Britt fixed my car. It needed 4 new Oxygen censors.......whatever that means. That afternoon I took Ashlyn over to Britt's mom's house. Joyce had volunteered to watch her overnight so that Britt and I could go out for a little while. We had dinner over at Jamie and Renee's house. Then their neighborhood was having a block party so we headed over there for a while. A few captain and cokes later we went to Angry Ale's in Denver to hear my friend Danny's band. They were Awesome! We had such a good time that night.
Sunday we were feeling a little rough so we skipped church and slept in. I didn't do ANYTHING all day. At 5:00 I headed to Mooresville for the meeting regarding our 10 year class reunion. Gosh.....it makes me feel old just typing that. We have a few ideas in mind that I think are going to work out fabulous! Hopefully it will be the best 10 year reunion EVER! I just can't believe that it's almost that time. Man I feel old. =)
So that's my weekend. It went by way too fast! I'm so excited that I only have to work 3 days this week, and then I get a 4 day weekend. Yeah!
I hope that everyone has a GREAT THANKSGIVING!!!! Just eat until you can't eat anymore. It only comes around once a year! =)

My mind......

I don't know why but my mind is in 1000 different places. I can't seem to focus on work right now, so I decided to take a little break and blog......just write everything that is running through my mind at the current moment.
First off.....what is my life plan? I'm happily married with a wonderful daughter........ the only thing missing is my career goal. I'm 27 years old and I still don't know what I want to do. Well, I know what I want to do.......open my own children's boutique, but I don't even know where to begin. You've got to have money to start your own business, and money is tight around our house right now. I know that we could get a loan, but what if the business doesn't work? It would just be alot of money down the drain. I know that with starting your own business you have to take some risks, but it scares me to think that we could use money for other things, and what if the business doesn't do as well as I think it would. My mind is going 100 miles a minute right now. Sorry for the rambling. Like I said. I'm just writing what is going through my head at the moment.
My friend Holly is going to teach me how to sew. I'm hoping to learn how to make crib bedding and children's bedding and accesories. I know, I know......I'm laughing at the idea of me being a domestic housewife too, but I REALLY want to learn how to do things like that. Holly is so crafty. Hopefully she can teach me a thing or two. And then I can make all of the bedding myself. Like I said........I'm just dreaming right now.
I haven't been sleeping well lately either. I went to the doctor a couple of weeks ago for a regular female physical. fun fun ;( I have been having these terrible night sweats. I mean so bad that the sheets are soaking wet......it's really nasty. Poor Britt gets to sleep with me. He won't even touch me when I break out in these sweats. And the funny thing is that it's only my legs that sweat. Weird! I just knew that something was seriously wrong with me. I am way too young to be going through the life change. She had some tests run, and I had been stressing about how the results were going to turn out. I got the results in the mail a few days ago, and everything came back normal. Whewww! I'm not a hypochondriac, but I worry constantly about having some sort of horrible disease. It's crazy.....I know. I guess it stems from my biggest fear being death.....Seriously! I know that I'll be in a much better place, but I can't get past the thought of not being able to see Ashlyn grow up.
I've just had so much on my mind lately. I needed to get some of it out. This is only part of what's been running through my head. Maybe I'll get on here a little later and finish. I better get back to work for now.

WHY!?!?!?!

1. WHY DOES MY HUSBAND NOT UNDERSTAND THAT WOMEN GIVE THEIR FRIENDS GIFTS DURING THE CHRISTMAS SEASON?

2. WHY IS IT OK FOR MEN TO SPEND MONEY ON GOLF, NFL SUNDAY TICKET, PLAY STATION GAMES, ETC... BUT IF WE GO OUT AND SPEND MONEY ON CLOTHES OR GIFTS WE HAVE WASTED OUR MONEY?

3. WHY IS MY CAR NOT FIXED YET? (IT BROKE DOWN ON ME TWICE TODAY)

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST.........

4. WHY ARE MEN SO STUPID?

Let the Christmas Shopping Begin

Saturday night I met Mom and Dad for supper at Tripp's. We had a great dinner. After that Ashlyn and I went shopping. I was going to find a few new items to add to my wardrobe and do some Christmas shopping. I have lost some weight (not alot, but enough that my pants won't stay up) since last year, so my pants aren't fitting very well anymore. I feel like those boys that wear their pants down to their knees. =) And of course I sold all of my clothes that would fit at a yardsale that we had a few months ago. I didn't think that I was ever going to lose that baby weight!
I had some coupons and things for Belk, so I bought a few items there. Then off through the mall to look in all of the other stores. It was packed! I wish that all stores would put their racks far enough apart so that I don't do an excersice routine trying to maneuver through this maze of clothes. It drives me nuts! I bought a few more items for myself at Victoria's Secret. They have a new bra out now.......and girls I LOVE it! It is the best thing since sliced bread. It's so comfortable. You'll have to check it out.
After spending hours at the mall I had not gotten any of my Christmas shopping accomplished. I guess that I'm just going to go to Concord Mills and North Lake mall one weekend and try to get it all done at once. The only problem is you have to have money to shop.....and the way that things break around our house we hardly ever have any extra money to spend. ;) We have some in savings, but we need that money for when things do break. LOL!
I already know what I'm getting the Nana's and Mammaw's. Shhhhhh don't give it away. Moriah...you know what it is, and everyone else should too. I think they will LOVE it! But I don't have a clue what to get everyone else......even Ashlyn. She would love anything that I get her, but I like to have some sort of idea of what I'm looking for. I want to try to get all of the shopping done early this year so that I don't have to worry with it any longer.
Other than Christmas shopping, I am SOOOO ready for Christmas. We are going to day after Thanksgiving to pick out our Christmas tree. We're making it a family tradition to drive to a tree farm in Boone where you pick out your own tree ,and they give you a saw to cut it down yourself. It's so much fun! I can't wait to start decorating! And I can't wait to go to Tanglewood and McAdenville! They always have a magnificent showing of lights!
I'm getting ready to go to Kohl's now. Everything is 50% off today. Hopefully I can knock a few items off of my christmas shopping list. Wish me luck!

T.G.I.F.

I didn't think that Friday was ever going to get here.....and so far this has started out crappy! I skipped lunch yesterday and went home at 4:00 because I had a headache all day, and it was slowly getting worse by the minute. I crawled in the bed around 5:00 and didn't wake up until midnight.....and that was only to eat supper and watch Grey's Anatomy. You know I wasn't feeling well if I missed Grey's. I went back to bed at 1:00 and didn't wake up until 7:15 this morning. I got ready in no time at all since today is casual Friday. I was actually going to be early for work ,which is a rarity, so I decided to go through the Sonic drive-thru to pick me up some breakfast. While waiting in line my car just completely stops running. I tried restarting it and nothing. It wouldn't turn over, it wouldn't do anything. The girl comes out with my food and I begin to let her know what just happened. I told her just to let everyone know to drive on around me, because I can't go anywhere. She was very kind.....it almost seemed as if she had been in the same predicament before, or at least seemed to understand how bad luck can feel. =) I called Britt and told him where I was and what had happened. He told me to try restarting it again since it had been sitting for a few minutes. It did finally crank up. I drove onto work without any problems. Who knows what's wrong with it? I just hope that it's not something that's going to cost me an arm and a leg. So, that's how my day has started.......very sucky! I'm meeting Ida for lunch though, so I'm sure that she'll find a way to make it better. She can put anyone in a better mood.

Atlanta Wedding Weekend

Saturday morning my parents and I were on our way to Atlanta for Marty and Laura's big day. Britt couldn't get off of work to go, so it was me all by my lonesome. I left Ashlyn with Britt's mom because I didn't know how well she would handle a 4 hour ride down there plus sitting through the wedding and reception without any tantrums. That would have been asking a little too much from a 2 year old.
The wedding was beautiful! It was held at the largest Presbyterian Church in the United States. This church has over 10,000 members. It was HUGE to say the least. After the wedding it was off to Buckhead Country Club for the reception. This place reminded me of Rockbarn, but bigger and much nicer. There was an open bar with all the beer, wine, and liquor that you could drink. Needless to say we were all feeling pretty good by the end of the reception. The food was spectacular........lamb chops, duck quesadillas, steamed veggies, tenderloin, shrimp and grits, crab cakes, sugar cured bacon, fruit, cheese.......I could go on and on. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Also they had a live band. The reception was awesome. I think that it was the nicest wedding and reception that I have ever attended.
Once the reception ended my mom drove Matt, Kellie, and me back to the hotel. We changed clothes and then headed out to a bar for what was about to be a very interesting night. Ryan, Heath and his fiance Megan went out with us too along with a few others. The bar was packed! We were all feeling really good at this point in the night. For some reason I got mad at Heath and threw some beads across the table at him.....it was Heath, so I'm sure that he did something to piss me off. Then he got really pissed and poured a drink on me. I was EXTREMELY PISSED now! I was yelling at him and calling him all kinds of names. His poor fiance! She was already pissed off at him before we even went out, and by the end of the night she was livid. Right before we left he finally apologized. I accepted his apology and told him that I forgave him, but that he should no better than to pour a drink on a female. Come on now!?!?!
Once we got back to the hotel I called Britt to tell him all about our adventurous evening. While sitting in the lobby talking to him I hear a loud commotion. I ran into the waiting area for the elevatiors to find Matt and Heath swinging at one another. Matt's shirt was ripped open and Ryan was holding Heath back. There was blood all over both of them. I'm still not really sure what happened. It was the funniest thing that I have seen in a long time. Neither one of them were hurt too bad. They both had a busted nose and a few bumps and bruises. That was definitely the highlight of the night. =) I am very tempted to call the hotel up and see if they have the surveillance video of the two of them duking it out. I would pay good money to own that video.
On the way home Mom and I stopped at the outlet stores in Gaffney and did some shopping. I found Ashlyn the cutest outfits. I haven't been there in a really long time, but I'm going to definitely start going more often. They had some really good buys.
It was a fabulous weekend. I'm struggling a bit today from the lack of sleep, but all in all it was very interesting.

Gotta love this pic! =)

TOO FUNNY!!

We are working on potty training Ashlyn. She used to want to go on the potty a few months back, and now it's almost a battle to get her to use it. Last night she told me that she needed to stinky. I asked her if she wanted to go to the potty and she said no. I told her that if she went in her diaper and not on the potty that she had to go to bed. So then she jumped up and was ready to go potty. She was sitting on her elmo potty really trying to go. She kept telling me that her bottom hurt. Finally she looked at me with those puppy dog eyes and said "Mommy, my bottom hurts. Will you kiss it?" LOL!!! I guess since Mommy kisses all other boo-boos and makes them better she thought that I could make that better too. I looked at her and told her that I would kiss any boo-boos, but not her butt. She just giggled at me. She still didn't stinky, so off the potty she went and back in the den to play. I made sure to tell her again that if she goes in her diaper she had to go to bed. Britt was down in the floor playing with her when all of a sudden a got a whiff of Ashlyn. She had gone in her diaper. I looked straight at her and asked if she had stinkied. She totally ignored my question. A few seconds later she backed her butt up right in Britt's face and said "Smell Daddy!". She is so full of herself. She's such a little comedian. It's so funny to hear the comments that come out of the mouths of children.

My week

It's been another busy week for me. On Tuesday I wasn't feeling well at all. I woke up with a TERRIBLE headache and a sore throat. I decided to take the day off and get some rest. I just laid around the house all day. I haven't had one of those kind of days in forever. That may have been the reason why I was sick in the first place. If I don't get enough rest I'm not a happy person to be around. Britt is the exact opposite. He can go for a whole day without any sleep and still won't be crabby. I have no clue how he does it. By Wednesday I was feeling a little better. I still had the sore throat, but no headache. And today I'm feeling more like myself. It's just been a long and nasty week. I am so ready for the weekend to roll around!

My brakess went out on my car. I mean completely went out, so Britt decided that he would replace them for me. He had all of my tires off, ready to change the back breaks, and the pressure or something wouldn't release for him to fix them. He had to call a parts store. They didn't have the part that he needed in stock so we had to order the part and wait for it to come in before he could finish the job. So while I was waiting on my car Britt's dad lent me his Excursion to drive. I love that thing. I feel like I own the road in that thing! Finally my car is fixed. Britt finished it up last night. Thanks Honey!

On top of that our dryer went out, so Britt had to go and buy a new dryer. If it's not one thing it's another. I mean does it ever stop? I'm just waiting on us to win the lottery. With all of the bad luck that we have, surely there is some really good luck to follow! =)

Girls weekend was WONDERFUL!!!!!!

Ok, So it's not the greatest picture, but this was taken at City Tavern. We got together for a few drinks and of course some great laughs! WE HAD THE BEST TIME!!!!!!!! I think that Kim fell down 3 times, and I fell once with a flip involved. Needless to say, but we were feeling PRETTY GOOD, ecxept for poor Kellie. She needed some cafeeine, so she drank Mtn Dews all night long. I'm sure that everyone at the club had a pretty good comedy show watching all of us!!!!! I swear that I have not laughed that much in an extremelly long time. It felt so good. We all needed this time with the girls!!!!!

Girls thank you for making Friday night so much fun. We need to start doing this more often!!! It was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love you all!!!!!

Weekend....what weekend?

My goodness, every week seems to fly by faster and faster. Before we know it Christmas will be here! October has been an extremely busy month around the Cody house. I have something going on almost every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this month through December. Whoo.....it makes me tired just thinking about it. =)
This weekend was just the start of all of it. Britt had to work this weekend, so Ashlyn and I went to homecoming at Bandy's Friday night with my parents. We had a great time. It was a little cold, but it was nice to go and watch my old home school play football. It brought back so many memories from back when I was in high school. I just love going to high school football games. And Ashlyn LOVED it too! She was dancing around to the music that the band was playing. I think that she had a ball.
On Saturday Kellie and I went to Rockbarn for a day at the spa. Britt had given me a gift certificate on Valentine's Day, and I just now used it. Can you believe that? I got an hour long massage. It was SOOOO NICE! My neck feels so much better today. After our massages Kellie and I had lunch out by the pool. We just sat for a couple of hours and chatted. We really need to do that more often. Maybe we could do a girl's day there one day for a Christmas get together. That would be nice.
Saturday night I went with my friend Renee to her sister's 40th birthday party. The party was held at Mia Famiglia in Cornelius. This is a new restaurant in the new shopping centers by the Peninsula, so it was very nice! All of our meals were paid for before hand. Our drinks were the only things that we had to pay for. And the food was delicious! It's so funny because Renee and her family are from New York. They all live in NC now. I was officially adopted into their family on Saturday night, so I am their "country daughter". I just love all of them. They are so much fun to be around. They really are like a second family to me. After dinner we had more drinks and listened to a piano player at the bar. He played all kinds of songs that you could sing and dance to. It was a fantastic party!
Sunday Ashlyn and I went to church. For lunch the church held a luncheon to raise money for the mission trip to Costa Rica that is in January of 2007. Mom is going to be one of the lucky members of the mission team this upcoming year. She is really excited about it. After lunch we went home and took a nap. Then we went back to church at 6:00 for Ashlyn to begin children's church which is every Sunday evening from 6:00-7:30. At first she wasn't sure about the idea of being left alone, but after she ate her corndog and fries she went right back to her room with all of the other kids and had a blast. When I picked her up she was grinning from ear to ear. She had painted a picture for me, which is now proudly hung on my refrigerator door. She got in her carseat last night and told me "I had FUN tonight mommy!" It was great to hear those cheerful words come out of her mouth. I was so worried about leaving her there, but she was FINE! She is looking forward to going back next week.
Now my weekend has ended, and I'm back at work. YUCK!! =) Oh well. Hopefully this week will fly by and Friday will be here in the blink of an eye. I can't wait for FRIDAY! Girls night out here I come.

Boo-boo's

It's just a part of growing up. Ashlyn has already had a handful of skinned knees and elbows, bruises, and one busted lip in the past 2 years. Really she is lucky that she hasn't had more than that, but she is usually very cautious about everything that she does......until yesterday.
I picked her up at the babysitter's, and when I got out of the car she had this pitiful look on her face. Nancy told me that she had a little accident yesterday afternoon. Nancy was out back swinging Ashlyn when all of a sudden, kurplunk, Ashlyn fell face first out of the swing onto the ground. She had a busted nose and lip.
I picked her up and she hugged my neck so tight. I'm just thankful that she wasn't seriously injured. And poor Nancy......She felt TERRIBLE! I think that it may have scared her worse than it did Ashlyn.
When she woke up this morning her nose was extremely swollen and blue. I don't think that she broke it because it isn't crooked, but it looks really bad right now due to the swelling. I'm sure that it won't be the last time that something like this happens. I just hope that the swelling eventually goes down. It makes me hurt just thinking about it.

1 Year Anniversary!?!?!?!?......and tiling

We had a pretty good weekend. Friday night we started on our basememnt. We got the base coat down. Saturday morning we got ready and headed up the mountain. The leaves were beginning to change, so it was BEAUTIFUL!!!! I hate that I forgot my camera while we were up there. Can you believe that? no camera. We ate a Nakato's Japanese steak hous. It was very good! I only had 2 glasses of wine, but I hardly ever drink anymore. When we got home I ended up passing out. I was SOOOO tired.
Today, the actual anniversary day, We..........................................worked all afternoon on the downstairs. It's going to look really good, but we worked our butt's off today!
And Holly colored my hair for me. Thanks Holly! It looks so much better now.
Well that's basicall our weekend. FUN FUN!!! =0) Work work work. But it has to get done. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Have a good week ahead! =0)

I'm a mess....

I don't know if I had too much coffee this morning, or if my nerves are just shot, but I feel like a jittery fool right now. =0) I really don't know what my problem is. It's probably a combination of things, but I feel so anxious right now. I needed to use my blog for some therapy right now......to just write out everything that is running through my head at the moment.

So here I go........I know that no one can live forever. Everyone is going to live to some point and then we DIE. And I know that I shouldn't fear death, but I do. I don't fear death because of the pain that may be felt physically, but I am terribly afraid of the emotional pain that everyone has to suffer. I am afraid of death for not only myself, but for my friends and my family. Why can't we think like Moriah's son, and be happy for a loved one to go to heaven. I know that they are in a much better place, and it is selfish to think this way........but why can't keep this person around for just a little bit longer? Why do some people lose a baby or a child? I don't think that I could handle that, and I wish that I was stronger so that I knew I could cope with a major loss. I mean it's LIFE....we live, we die. We all know that's how it works, but yet death is such a hard concept for many of us to grasp.

My mom came in the door last night. Ashlyn and I were in the den playing; waiting on her to come home. We started talking about this and that......somehow the conversation led to my mom telling me that my Mammaw Drum wants me to bring my video camera over one day and let Pappaw video Mammaw and Ashlyn throughout the day.

Most of you know that my Mammaw has Pulmonary Fibrosis, which is hardening of the lungs. I found out about her diagnosis in the hospital after I had given birth to Ashlyn. Everyone knew how devastated I would be when I found out about the disease, so they waited until I delivered Ashlyn to tell me. When I found out, she had been diagnosed for a few months, and the doctors had given her a year to live. Well, she has well surpassed what they had told her. And I truly believe it was due to her special guardian angel.....Ashlyn. If you saw the bond between these two it would melt your heart. My Mammaw thinks the WORLD of Ashlyn, and Ashlyn thinks the WORLD of her Mammaw!

My heart just breaks into a million pieces thinking about this bond being broken. I too have always had a special bond with my Mammaw. I used to sit with her for hours and just talk about anything and everything. I could talk to her about anything, and she would never judge. She always makes me feel better when I am down and out. I just can't stand the thought of losing her. I know that she can't live forever, but I want to know that she will live long enough for Ashlyn to REMEMBER her, and to know how special she was to her Mammaw. If you ask her who's baby she is, she'll say "I'm Mammaw's pretty baby". I think that my Mammaw and Pappaw Drum are truly Ashlyn's two favorite people. They let her do ANYTHING that she wants, and they should. They are the GREAT grandparents. Great meaning the best EVER!!!!

Mammaw is starting to go downhill. She would never tell me that because she's afraid that if she says that she doesn't feel good, I won't bring Ashlyn over as much. I know better than to do that. Ashlyn is the best medicine that my grandma has ever had. That's what has kept her with us this long.

So in saying all of this..........please pray for my Mammaw. Pray for our family. Pray for the strength to get me through this rough time. And pray for Ashlyn. Even though she is young, I truly believe that it is going to be hard on her. She isn't going to understand why Mammaw's not around anymore. I do know that my Mammaw will be watching over all of us, especially Ashlyn, once she gets to heaven.

What happened???

Why is the world this crazy? I know that we've always had crime, but it hasn't always been this bad. I am just baffled by the amount of CRAZY people out there! Three school shootings in the past week!?!? And one of them an Amish school.........people who keep to their selves, and don't bother anyone.
I swear to you that a few days before yesterday's shooting I thought to myself.......maybe we should move to an Amish country. Of course I wasn't serious, but I just thought about how these people live, and I thought that no one would ever think of attacking an Amish school. And then it happened. Yesterday a man killed 5 Amish girls and himself.........for some kind of grudge that he had from 20 years ago.
First of all, why would you kill anyone.......but especially an innocent child. It makes me sooooo angry!!! How are you not supposed to live in a small amount of fear for your child when we have crazy people like these 3 men out and about?
My heart goes out to the families who have lost a loved one, the family of the killers, and all of the children who lived through these horrific acts.

My snuggle bug

It must just be her age, because this week Ashlyn has been the sweetest little girl I've ever seen. Tuesday night she wanted to lay in the bed with me for a few minutes, so of course I gave in. I told her that she could lay with me for a little while and then she had to go to sleep in her bed. We laid there. I rubbed her tummy and she was just looking at me with the cutest little grin on her face. Then she turned over to me, hugged my neck, and started rubbing my back. After laying there about 20 minutes, she quietly said "mommy, I'm ready to get in my bed now." It felt so good to have my sweet little girl back. I really think that she didn't feel good the week that she had those raging fits. She still threw some tantrums this week, but nothing like the past 2 weeks. I can't even describe the way that I feel snuggling up to her in the bed. I swear that she is the best thing that ever happened to me. The bond between us is unbelievable. I know that in a few years, when she's a teenager, she probably will not want to do anything with mom anymore. That just isn't cool. =) I'm trying to savor all of the warm hearted moments while I can. It's the best feeling in the entire world!!!!

WEDDING WEEKEND!!!!! =)

This was the BIG weekend for my friend Ginger!!!! She has been waiting for this day since I first met her.

On Friday morning we all went to get a manicure and pedicure. That was one of the gifts that she had given us. SO NICE!!!!! =) After our day of pampering, we all went off in seperate ways. Holly and I just shopped a little, and after that we went hom and took a much needed nap!

The rehearsal went well. Ashlyn actrually walked down the isle with the ring bearer. They were adorable. She stood beside if me for maybe 5 seconds, and then she decided that she would run up and down the isle, like 100 times. Besides that the rehearsal went well.

Now it was time to head off to the Black Angus for the dinner. This place was VERY NICE!!!
I had the chicken and Britt got the NY Strip. Both Entrees were off the chain! It was awesome!

Fast Forward to the day of the wedding. Ashlyn and I got to the church around 1:45. I had to get my hair done. Audrea started working on it. She did a GREAT job on me and Ashlyn!! I just wish that I could do things like that by myself, and Ginger hair and makeup , OH MY GOSH!!!!! It looked outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was finally time for all of us to line up. At first Ashlyn wanted to go with me, we kept telling her that if she was a good girl and held the little boy's hand going down the isle she would get some fruit snacks. I went down the isle, and no Ashlyn so that's a good thing. It was finally time for Ashlyn and the ringbearer to walk down. They both started walking, but at different times. Finally Ashlyn runs right past them over where the bridesmaids are. So all in all we are doing pretty good! She was throwing her petals over at Ginger. She was grabbing huge handfulls and throwing them everywhere. Once she had no more left to throw, she started picking all of them up, one, by one. I couldn't get her attention. That's just what she wanted to do, but then she grabbed the flower basket and looked like she was going to take off up and down the isles, so Britt snatched her up and had to carry her outside. She was screaming at the top of her lungs.

Headed to Rockbarn for the reception. It was fun we ate, drank, and danced all night long. Ashlyn was glued to the dancefloor the entire night. She would leave it to get a bit of food, and then she was right back out there shakin her booty. She was soooo cute.

Well, That's about it. I'm posted some pictres.

What is a mom to do?????

My daughter can be the sweetest, cutest, most precious little girl ever. However she also has another side. She throws these fits..........flailing, screaming, kicking, hitting, scratching. Now, she has done things like this in the past, but nothing compares to the past few days. She gets zoned out in her raging fits. There is nothing, and I mean NOTHING, that will calm her down.

It's even gotten so bad that my Mom called me at work on Monday. Her nerves were shot! Ashlyn had thrown a terrible 1 hour long temper tantrum for Mom. It all started because Ashlyn didn't want to put her shoes on. My mom was so frustrated! She told me that she couldn't handle her acting like that. Nana and pappaw's are supposed to be the good guys. Mommy and daddy are supposed to be the mean ones. =) That's what mom told me on the phone.
I know that Ashlyn is just trying to see how far she can push her limits, and she's learning her independence, but heaven help me. The child needs to learn that she is not the boss, and that she can't always have it HER WAY! Moriah - HELP!!!! What do I do? I try to put her in time out, but she bows up and won't stay in place. I spank her and that just makes her madder. I totally believe in spankings, but she does not understand why it's ok for me to do that to her, but she can't hit me. What do I do? I don't want her to end up being "that child" that I would see out in public kicking and screaming. HELP!!!! =)

Pictures from the weekend.

My Weekend.....

Much better than my week. That's for sure!! Friday night Ashlyn and I just came home and rested. I watched the Notebook, which I love!!!! I believe that this movie could be the greatest love story ever!!!!
Then Saturday Ashlyn and I headed to Statesville for a Bridal Luncheon. It was held at the Maple House Cafe. This place was off the chain! The food was WONDERFUL, and the service was even better. It was great. Only a week left until her big day. I am so happy for her!
Saturday evening I wanted to go shopping, but Ashlyn was not going to go no matter what. I told her that she was not the boss, and that she was going shopping no matter what. Well..........I tried to put her in her car seat not once, but twice, and she was determined that she wasn't going. She bowed up and kicked and screamed for over an hour. I'm telling you she is STUBBORN!!! And she won't give up either! So needless to say we didn't go shopping and she ended up being the boss. UGGGHHHH!! Terrible two's are SOOO MUCH FUN!! =0 (Yeah right) So my friend Holly came over and we watched Failure to Launch, which is another favorite of mine since my "man on the side" is in it. Love it!!
Today we missed church because Ashlyn threw another one of her tantrums this morning. She pitched a fit for almost an hour. There was no way that we were going to make it to church with her attitude. She finally laid back down and after she woke up I took her out to play on her playset for a good bit of the afternoon. She LOVES it!!
Then Mom came over and we finally got to go shopping. I got Ashlyn a few fall clothes and shoes. I got myself a few things, but mostly everything was for Ashlyn. She's going to have a whole new wardrobe between mom and I. All in all it was a good weekend. I think Ashlyn is finally feeling better. I'm feeling better, so as long as Britt doesn't get sick we are great.

My week in a nutshell....

Where do I start? Let's see, early Sunday morning I woke up so nauseous that I couldn't sleep. I just laid in bed hoping that it would pass. It felt like eternity. I finally just got up and hugged the toilet until I had nothing left inside. I HATE being sick on my stomach!!!! I would rather be sick with anything other than that. All I did Sunday was sleep.
We also found out some terrible news this past week. Britt's Grandma Cody has really started to go downhill. She had gone to the doctor, and her cancer is in the most progressive state. The doctor gave her 2 weeks to a month to live. Please say a prayer for her. She is the most thoughtful and caring person that you would ever meet. I just pray that she doesn't have to suffer.
Monday rolled around and I felt much better. Tuesday, Ashlyn was running a fever and didn't feel well. Wednesday, still running a fever. Her fever would break and then come back. She was pitiful. Britt stayed at home with her all day Wednesday. As for myself, I woke up Wednesday morning at 6:00, and I was in the bathroom sick from 6:00 on. I went on to work, but I felt SOOOO bad. Thank goodness mama Mary Ann, my boss, had some medicine for me to take. It took a while but if FINALLY started working and I felt much better.
Thursday everything went pretty well. It was a little crazy at work, and I had a migranine, but other than that I can't complain. Oh wait, I forgot to mention that when I picked Ashlyn up from the babysitter she had spots all over her face. Some sort of rash. I didn't think much of it at the time.
Now, let me tell you how today has started. If it's any indication of the day ahead I'm in BIG trouble! I woke up at 3:30 am sick again. I was in the bathroom for at least an hour. I took some medicine and finally went back to sleep. I got up a little after 7:00 to get ready for work. At 7:30 the phone rang. It was Britt's dad. Something was wrong with his grandma, and he needed Britt to go out to her house and help her sister ,who had stayed with her last night. So Britt headed over there. I was so worried that something bad had happened. Well, Britt was supposed to take Ashlyn to my Mom's house this morning. It was already 7:40 by this point, and I was going to be majorly late if I had to take Ashlyn all the way to Mom's and then to work. So I called mom and got her out of bed. We arranged for her to meet me at Western Steer to pick Ashlyn up. I got Ashlyn out of bed, and she had bumps ALL OVER HER BODY!!!! It looked like chicken pox, but I know that she's had the chicken pox vaccine, so I didn't know what in the world it was. Now mom not only had to meet me at the crack of dawn this morning, but she also had to take Ashlyn to the doctor.
Mom just called and told me that the doctor said that is was some sort of virus. Maybe like 5th's Disease. This is where you run a fever for a few days and then break out in a rash after the fever has gone away. Crazy huh? The doctor said that the rash means that she is actually getting better, so let's just keep our fingers crossed. She is in a wedding next weekend, so I don't want her having bumps all over her body while walking down the isle in her beautiful dress.
It's only 11:00 now, so I'll keep you posted on any other occurrences that may happen throughout the day.

Remembering 9/11

This day will forever be remembered. I remember exactly where I was the day that the World Trade Center came under attack; the day that America came under attack. While listening to the replay from 9/11/01 on Ace and TJ this morning tears began streaming down my face. My prayers continue to go out to everyone involved in that day's events.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

Ginger's Lingerie Shower

Ginger's mom in a toilet paper wedding dress. =)

This is the cake that Britt's mom made for the shower. Isn't it awesome!?!?

Me, Ginger, and Danise
